Wehrenberg Theatres Announces Partnership with D-BOX Technologies Debuts Motion Seats in St. Louis
St. Louis, MO (November 10, 2009) – Wehrenberg Theatres continues its century-plus tradition of innovations by partnering with D-BOX Technologies Inc. (DBO.A on the TSX Venture Exchange), a leader in ground-breaking motion technology for the entertainment industry.
The oldest family-owned-and-operated movie theatre circuit in the U.S., Wehrenberg Theatres, will feature 20 seats (2 rows) equipped with D-BOX’s motion technology at its Ronnies 20 Cine location in South County (5320 S. Lindbergh).
Adding a completely new dimension to movie viewing, D-BOX theatrical motion system offers a realistic, immersive experience setting the standard for motion effects on theatrical feature films. Each new movie title is encoded with D-BOX motion effects, frame by frame, by D-BOX motion designers so that sensations occur in perfect sync with the action taking place onscreen. Seats move in all directions, shake or sway based on the movie-goer’s point of view on screen. For example, if a car jumps a broken bridge in a movie, the seat would raise and lower to give the viewer the same feeling the car’s driver would experience. Movie-goers who have experienced D-BOX motion technology rave they feel part of the movie action.
The release of 2012 on November 13 will be the eighth feature film release to feature D-BOX Motion CodeTM. The number of movies obtained so far has allowed for a continuous flow of D-BOX enabled content for equipped exhibitors.
“For over a century, Wehrenberg Theatres has introduced new technologies to St. Louis,” said Ronald Krueger, Chairman and Co-CEO of Wehrenberg Theatres. “From our early days with hired actors providing dialogue to silent films to recent advances like Mega Screen and IMAX 3D, we’ve always provided cutting edge movie-going experiences. D-Box is just the latest, exclusive feature for our customers’ enjoyment.”
“Our guests expect us to be at the forefront of movie-going advances because of our history,” added Jim Hoffmeister, President and Co-CEO. “These innovations are as much a part of the Wehrenberg experience as friendly staffs, fresh hot-buttered popcorn and excellent presentations. Our goal is always to provide the most entertaining, unique movie-going experience available, and D-Box is yet another way to accomplish this goal. D-Box Motion Seats truly provide an amazing extra dimension to enjoying the latest blockbusters.”
“D-BOX’s recent agreement with Wehrenberg Theatres serves as a true testimonial to the growing acceptance of our technology” said Claude Mc Master, President and Chief Executive Officer of D-BOX Technologies. “With this first new location in the US Midwest, we are on track to achieve our goal of North-American coverage as we anticipate more theatres to follow shortly.”
D-BOX Motion Code™ technology is now available at ten movie theatres for a total of 235 D-BOX equipped seating in North America, all of which have been deployed since the beginning of April 2009.
